WOW - What a weekend! Friday night we didn't do a whole lot. Red, Martin, and P'nut went and played a little golf in the front yard until dinner. Saturday was a very busy day for us. I had women's Bible Study early and it was so great - the friends, the fellowship, the lesson - everything about it. After I took Red to a birthday party. She had a great time bouncing and running around with all her friends.
That afternoon we received disturbing news. I received a call from a good friend at church requesting prayers for our pastor's brother and his family. Evidently they induced labor and while she was in labor she coded. The baby was doing fine and was healthy. However, they had to put the mother on a ventilator and medically induce a coma and the doctors were not sure she was going to make it. It sent chills through me and tears to my eyes - I couldn't imagine the pain and joy they were feeling all at the same time. Hang on for the end because it is amazing - I will get to that in the order we experienced it!
The night was much more uplifting - Martin and I had a date night. One of our friends threw his wife a surprise party for her 30th b'day and so we went to that. While at the party we found out that one of Martin's friends from high school and his wife had moved into the house next to us - small world! Welcome Chris and Susan - we had a great time hanging out with you Saturday night!
Sunday we got up early and went to church because we had to teach the kindergarten through 5th grade - that was an experience in itself! However, before church I spoke with the pastor's wife and found out that Brittney had regained consciousness the night before and was communicating through writing. Miraculously, the family was told by the doctor's they did not think there was any brain damage! But the most amazing thing about all this is the doctor told them when women code during labor there is usually one or two things that cause it and they usually give the mother a 1% chance or less that they will live through it and if the patient does recover they are usually in a permanent vegetative state! I can not tell you how that blew my mind!
Later that afternoon I was thinking about the whole situation that family had experienced. It really made me think about how blessed I am just to even have my life and to wake up each morning and take a breath - I have so much to be thankful for and so often I take it for granted. Maybe I need to make a resolution this year to take time out every day to remember all the things I need to be thankful for!
